The-AIO Inc., a memory controller developer based in Seongnam, Korea, attracts $42M in investment
The-AIO Co., Ltd., a developer of NAND flash controller chips used in storage devices, said it has attracted $42M in investment from BNW Investment, Notic Capital and Industrial Bank of Korea.
The-AIO Co., Ltd. is a startup that develops controller chips for storage devices that use NAND flash such as SD cards, eMMC, and SSD. NAND flash controller is an essential system semiconductor to use NAND flash memory semiconductors as a storage device, and is a key component that determines the performance and life of the storage device. The-AIO Co., Ltd. was founded in 2011 and is the only Korean company that mass-produces eMMC controllers. Utilizing the stable financial power prepared through this investment, we are planning to focus on the mass-production of SD card Controllers and development of SSD controllers.
Kim Jae-wook, the CEO of BNW Investment stated, "The-AIO Co., Ltd. is a company that develops core chips used to control NAND flash memory, and is highly praised for its collaboration with large domestic companies based on its own technology. In addition, we decided to invest because there is a high possibility of IPO as a system semiconductor design company.” Mr. Kim has a history of serving as president of Samsung Electronics' memory business.
Kwon Jin-hyung, CEO of The-AIO Co., Ltd., said, "Korea has the world's No. 1 and No. 2 memory Chip company. System semiconductor growth in Korea is possible when intensive investment is made in memory-related system semiconductors. I think this large-scale investment is a big step for the growth of domestic memory-related system semiconductors. We will become a company that makes efforts to grow memory-related system semiconductors that echo in the future."
